Hike & Bike Isle au Haut
Grab a bike and head out to Isle au Haut for a memorable island excursion. Bring your own or rent a mountain bike from Old Quarry and step aboard the Nigh Duck to begin your adventure.
The Nigh Duck will drop you off with a map at the Isle au Haut town landing in the morning and you'll enjoy peddling on both paved and dirt hilly roads for about three to four miles. You then leave your bike at the trail head and hike Acadia National Park, enjoying spectacular views with the potential of pounding surf against 75 foot cliffs. Hike the shoreline trails and visit old spruce forests. Hop back on your bike for a few more hilly miles, stopping to hike more of the island's trails and for a break at Long Pond, a mile-long fresh water lake, to go for a swim. Finish off your day by peddling the remaining few hilly miles along a mostly paved road back to the town landing.
The total peddling trip is approximately 12 miles (5 paved and 7 dirt), and there are 18 miles of hiking trails. We suggest going counter clockwise as the hills are easier and ask that you please keep your bikes on the roads and off the hiking trails. What to bring
The Nigh Duck leaves Old Quarry daily at 9:00 am, reaching the Isle au Haut town landing at 9:45 am. Return from town landing at 5:00 pm and reach Old Quarry at 5:45 pm.
RATES: Adults: $35/round trip - Children under 12: $18/round trip

After that, on the way back in we will haul several lobster traps (you can purchase the catch right on the boat)!. Capt. Bill has lobstered for many years and can answer all your questions about lobstering.
All along the boat tour we are watching for sea life that is often times quite abundant. Also during the trip educational subjects are talked about including natural history subjects like: Native North Americans; the European settlement of the area; history of the local economy including farming, fishing, boat building, granite, and tourism. Also history regarding lighthouses, transportation, island living, and the waterways are given. Geology, marine biology, the local flora and fauna, and ecology are touched upon as well.
